AAE Q55: 'out on the tiles'

HI,

Can you explain me what does "out on the tiles" mean?

Thank you

Jozef

Hi Jozef

"out on the tiles"

definition: out all night having a very enjoyable time (drinking, going to parties, clubs etc)

example: "You look tired this morning, did you have a night on the tilest?"

origin:
(19th Century) the night-time adventures/exploits of cats (as in: on the roof-tiles)

Hope this helps

M
