AAE Q56: 'mind'

Hello Matt,

Do you use the verb MIND in positive sentences?

For example, what is the positive sentence to "I don't mind waiting for you every morning."

Thank you very much.

Judy

Hi Judy

It is possible to use 'mind' in positive sentences. Often we use it with an intensifier, such as 'terribly' or the emphatic do.

"In general, I don't mind people smoking but I do mind people smoking while I eat"
"I mind terribly wasting my time"

Therefore you can say "I mind waiting for you every morning" but it is better to say "I do mind waiting for you every morning".

Hope this helps

M
